The American Association of Dental Board’s Assessment Services Program (ASP) is a comprehensive program of services designed to assist dental boards throughout the disciplinary process and includes three major components: Dentist-Professional Review and Evaluation Program (D-PREP), Expert Review Assessment (ERA), and Remediation.

ERA – Expert Review Assessment

The Expert Review Assessment program is a service provided to dental boards in need of an independent expert witness in a disciplinary case review. AADB will refer the state dental board to a specially trained expert who will review the practitioner’s patient care and treatment and/or conduct and offer an opinion as to whether or not that care, treatment and conduct met applicable standards.

D-PREP – Dentist-Professional Review and Evaluation Program

The intent of D-PREP is to evaluate and detect possible deficiencies in dental practitioners referred by their boards and suggest possible remediation. In the ongoing effort to protect the public, this program has been designed to identify practitioners who are in need of remediation or who should not continue in the practice of dentistry.

In many cases, the outcome of the D-PREP assessment results in suggested remediation. Based on the assessment, a customized curriculum to address the specific deficiencies is developed by an AADB approved dental school. The remediation consists of intense courses in the identified areas in order to bring the candidate’s knowledge up to the standard of practice.
